Seabury Sings!

Father Christopher Golding
Thanks to Ms. Schad, and our amazing student, staff, and faculty tech crew, we've had some amazing moments of singing in Assembly recently! There's been the stomping of feet and the clapping of hands. There's been the sound of voices uniting to the top of Seabury's beautiful  ‘A’ali’ikuhonua Creative Arts Center (A'CAC). Yes, Seabury Hall's Alma Mater—the Seabury Hall school song—it's making a comeback. (I hear the Song has even made an appearance in a study hall or two!)
As we prepared to sing, it was so helpful to me to hear Ms. Schad compare the musical genres of a "fight song" and a "school song," and the unique contexts that each may be offered, heard, and participated in. Context is something that students spend—perhaps we all do—a great amount of time thinking on. What is helpful or appropriate in one context, may not be helpful in another. It is sometimes said, "timing is everything." But perhaps, "context is everything" also rings true.

As we renew our singing of the Seabury Hall Alma Mater in our 60th year, we stand as one school, one 'ohana, united by those who have come before us. Particularly this week, we give thanks for our students, parents, caregivers, faculty, staff, together with our incredible alumni, and the work of our Advancement Team, ahead of this weekend's 30th Annual Golf Tournament. Athletics bring us together, just as music does, of course, uniting us in a common purpose to live, learn, and love.

The Seabury Hall Alma Mater
Come, sing the praise of Seabury Hall,
come chant the festal theme.
Among the trees her gables white
rise o’er the fields of green.
In glory here on gentle slope
her beauty smiles afar.
Across the verdant Valley Isle
from Haleakalā.

From Cooper House we gaze below
upon a dazzling sight,
Where breakers on the coral reefs
outline the shore in white;
Or upward to our mountain’s crest,
where breaks the radiant day.
And sunbeams filter through the
clouds that form the Maunalei.

O may her students always find
an inspiration here.
And the Aloha Spirit live
to make her memory dear.
May God protect this family
that calls upon His Name.
And bless the work of Seabury Hall
and bring her endless fame.
